Li Hao

profile

Li Hao, from Xinyang City, was born in 1986. Representative inheritor of intangible cultural heritage leaf carvings in Xinyang City, member of the New Federation, and head of the Xinyang Intangible Cultural Heritage Training Institute.

Influenced and nurtured by the family environment since childhood, I have developed a strong interest in traditional Chinese culture and began to learn from it.

Leaf carving, as the name suggests, refers to carving on leaves. Since being exposed to leaf carving art in 2012, I have been deeply attracted and fell in love with this ancient technique, which has a history of more than 3600 years. I began to read books, search for information, and study. On the basis of traditional leaf carving techniques, we have successively developed leaf body micro carving, leaf vein painting, and leaf hanging painting.

In 2014, Li Hao innovated and developed leaf carving techniques based on inheriting traditional techniques, increasing the production of leaf carving from over 60 to over 70. Innovating in techniques, through special techniques, not only makes the leaf veins of leaf carvings clearer, more colorful, and more layered, but also makes the leaf carvings thin like cicada wings, naturally acid and alkali resistant in color, and resilient in meridians, giving the leaves a new life in the slightest moment.

In 2015, innovative research was conducted on preservation techniques, and through repeated experiments, a unique technique was developed that can preserve leaf carvings for hundreds of years without fading or deformation. Breaking the singularity of carving on paulownia leaves, the carrier of leaf carving creation extends leaf carving to camphor trees, oak trees, chestnut trees, magnolia, osmanthus, maple leaves, and other leaves.
